About the Lidcombe Program
What is the Lidcombe Program?
The Lidcombe Program is a treatment designed for young children who
stutter that can also be used with school-aged children. The program is delivered by a parent or caregiver during the child’s daily life, with guidance and support from a speech-language pathologist. Parents are taught how to do the treatment and are supported when it at home.
What is stuttering?
Stuttering causes interruptions in the flow of speech.
This includes repeating sounds or words, stretching out sounds, or difficulty
starting a word. There may also be signs of effort or tension during speech. The
severity of stuttering varies. Some people stutter only occasionally, while others
experience it a lot. While stuttering is not caused by psychological factors, once it has developed, it can cause psychological issues and affect quality of life.
